The Luxuries of Lemons

Growing up in the PNW citrus fruits were highly prized. So, in the tradition of these luxurious fruits that were brought to the Northwest by train and delivered by wagon during the holidays and wintertime was quite a feat and thereby greatly appreciated. Even in the 1950s having an orange in your holiday stocking was a real treat with a traveler’s story.

This oil pastel is an original work on toned paper and is 11”x14”.

Our friend and neighbor has a wonderful tree farm, there are rows of deciduous and evergreens in all sorts of color and form, a delightful place to make some field sketches. The sketches are sometimes a good start for a woodblock print, especially when there are really nice contrasts in lights and shadows. This image was carved and printed by the artist, on 100% cotton paper (9”x10”) with archival inks and watercolor on the 5.5”x7.5” image. Ships free in the States.
